UAE Healthcare Volunteers Recycle 750 kg of E‑Waste to Protect Environment

In a powerful demonstration of environmental responsibility, healthcare volunteers across the UAE have collectively recycled 750 kg of electronic waste (e‑waste), reinforcing the nation’s focus on sustainability and eco‑conscious community action.

Uniting for a Greener Tomorrow
Through the ongoing Aster Green Choices initiative—part of Aster DM Healthcare’s CSR efforts—the newly concluded drive saw volunteers from Aster hospitals and clinics nationwide gather and recycle discarded electronics. The initiative, conducted in partnership with certified recycler E‑Scrappy, follows earlier campaigns that recycled 496 kg in 2020, 318 kg in 2023, and 434 kg in 2024, culminating in the latest total of 750 kg

Widespread Community Engagement
Strategically placed e‑waste collection points at Aster Jubilee Medical Centre (Bur Dubai), Aster Hospital Mankhool (Al Raffa), Aster Hospital Al Qusais, Sharjah Hospital, Medcare Orthopedic & Spine Hospital (Sheikh Zayed Road), and Medcare Al Safa generated significant community participation. Both staff and local residents contributed electronics and batteries, affirming a shared commitment to environmental stewardship

Corporate Culture Meets Sustainability
Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, emphasized the alignment with the company’s ESG goals: “Integrating 10 of the 17 UN SDGs into our operations has yielded significant impact… The E‑Waste Collection Drive is a testament to our ongoing efforts to promote proper e‑waste disposal and recycling”

Broader Impact and Future Goals
The initiative is part of a comprehensive environmental strategy, which also includes tree planting, green clean‑ups, and indoor plant giveaways. Over the last fiscal year, Aster recycled 423 tonnes of general waste, including 5.5 tonnes of e‑waste, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 6,824 tCO₂e through renewables integration

Looking ahead, Aster Volunteers plan to expand e‑waste drives to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and India, aiming to scale the eco‑impact regionally

This campaign contributes to the UAE’s broader sustainability agenda, mirroring efforts like the Clean UAE campaign which recently mobilized thousands of volunteers to collect tens of tonnes of general waste. These initiatives align closely with the UAE Vision 2030 and multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals
