GE HealthCare Partners with Egypt’s Ministry of Health to Launch Local Ultrasound Production Facility

In a groundbreaking move set to reshape the regional healthcare landscape, GE HealthCare has signed a strategic partnership with Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population to establish a local production facility for ultrasound devices. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to advancing Egypt’s healthcare capabilities, enhancing self-reliance in medical technology, and positioning the country as a hub for innovation and manufacturing excellence across the Middle East and Africa.
The new facility, to be located in Cairo, will mark GE HealthCare’s first ultrasound manufacturing site in Egypt and represents a major step forward in the country’s broader strategy to localize medical device production. The collaboration will not only reduce Egypt’s dependency on imported imaging systems but also help to lower healthcare costs, improve supply chain resilience, and boost the nation’s export capacity.
This development aligns with Egypt’s national vision to modernize its healthcare infrastructure and promote public-private partnerships that drive technological advancement. The Ministry of Health has extended full support to facilitate the project’s success, including potential regulatory and operational incentives that will accelerate implementation and encourage sustained innovation.
The ultrasound production plant will be established in phases, with an initial focus on diagnostic ultrasound systems. GE HealthCare will bring in global technical expertise while training and empowering local talent to ensure the facility meets world-class standards. In time, the facility is expected to serve not only domestic needs but also neighboring countries, leveraging Egypt’s geographic and economic advantages to become a regional supply base for medical imaging technology.
Speaking on the collaboration, GE HealthCare emphasized its long-standing relationship with Egypt and reiterated its commitment to supporting the country’s goals of sustainable health development, job creation, and knowledge transfer. The initiative reflects a forward-looking approach to medical technology that balances innovation, localization, and patient-centered care.
This partnership also opens doors for future collaboration in other medical technologies, such as radiology, digital health solutions, and contrast media manufacturing reinforcing Egypt’s ambition to become a leading destination for healthcare investment and manufacturing excellence.
